We may live in a time of information overload, but it seems that true wisdom is in short supply these days. We have the world at our fingertips, but many of us are as clueless as ever when it comes to navigating the complexities of life with a strong fluency in the ways of knowledge, integrity, and justice. We're prone to folly and incompetence more often than we care to admit.
The good news, however, is that our problem really isn't all that new. The trajectory of human society has always been afflicted by the gravitational pull of foolishness. We've always struggled to escape our own simple-minded ignorance. Cultivating a life of comprehensive wisdom has always been the exception to the rule.
Maybe that's why God gave us the book of Proverbs. As we stumble through the twists and turns of life, the wisdom contained in this ancient book serves as a steadying influence. It grounds us in truth. It imparts understanding. It helps us embrace a lifestyle that is profoundly uncommon.
